Maisie Dobbs, an independent young woman, has her own business of private investigations and is hired by Joseph Waite, a wealthy businessman, to find his missing daughter.
Sounds like the run of the mill storyline, but no, the writing in this mystery brings the post World War I era to life along with the pains and sufferings of the residents of the time. Maisie determines that her missing heiress is somehow connected with two murders and a supposed suicide. As she goes deeper into the search for Charlotte Waite, her own emotions are assailed by her own family issues.
A great story line, I'm ready for the next one!
