Library Loot

Library Loot

Much as we would all like to own the books we read, unless we win the lottery, it just isn't financially doable for most of us, so the public library comes to the rescue. What books did you find at the library last time you visited?

I've been recovering from some surgery so when I finally got back to the library, it was as if all these books had just been waiting for me. I got a huge haul and here they are:

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield - So many people at LibraryThing have talked about this one, had to grab it.

A Fountain Filled with Blood by Julia Spencer-Fleming - #2 in the series started 2010

Out of the Deep I Cry by Julia Spencer-Fleming #3 in the series

All Mortal Flesh by Julia Spencer-Fleming next at #5 in the series

I Shall Not Want by Julia Spencer-Fleming #6 in the series

One False Move by Harlan Coben

Case Histories by Kate Atkinson

Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear

Call of the Wild by Jack London

I definitely hit the jackpot!

So what did you find at the Public Library?

Library Loot

This is my own little meme where I show to the world that I don't own all the books that I read. I plunder the library's shelves religiously and come away with new books, old books - histories, mysteries - large print, audios, youth, fiction, whatever catches my eye and sounds interesting has the possibly of making it into my red book bag and being carried home.

These are the books that made the most recent trip:

The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig and The Masque of the Black Tulip by Lauren Willig were recommended to me by VictoriaPl at Librarything. I managed to find them on Audio so when I'm working on my needlework these may be at the top of the list.

The Perfect Poison by Amanda Quick - I have enjoyed her books before and this is the newest in her Arcane series - will hold for later.

Desperate engagement : how a little-known Civil War battle saved Washington, D.C., and changed the course of American history

Since I'm currently immersed in my Civil War reading, I really want to read this one considering that I live in Washington D.C. suburbs. I'll find out something about my hometown and history at the same time.

What have you brought home from the library lately?

Life Sentences
by Laura Lippman
Synopsis - Barnes & Noble
Author Cassandra Fallows has achieved remarkable success by baring her life on the page. Her two widely popular memoirs continue to sell briskly, acclaimed for their brutal, unexpurgated candor about friends, family, lovers—and herself. But now, after a singularly unsuccessful stab at fiction, Cassandra believes she may have found the story that will enable her triumphant return to nonfiction. When Cassandra was a girl, growing up in a racially diverse middle-class neighborhood in Baltimore, her best friends were all black: elegant, privileged Donna; sharp, shrewd Tisha; wild and worldly Fatima. A fifth girl orbited their world—a shy, quiet, unobtrusive child named Calliope Jenkins—who, years later, would be accused of killing her infant son. Yet the boy's body was never found and Calliope's unrelenting silence on the subject forced a judge to jail her for contempt. For seven years, Calliope refused to speak and the court was finally forced to let her go. Cassandra believes...

The Impending Crisis 1848-1861

I hit the jackpot at the Library again!

I had been notified of the arrival of two ILLs and when I went to pick them up, a third one had come in.  I had been waiting about two weeks for all of them.  I also found a book that I had had to previously return unread because I lost at Library Russian roulette.  Finally, I got two other books on CD.

My jackpot winnings were:
  1. Wreath of Deception - first in the Craft Corner Mysteries
  2. Stamped Out - first in the Stamping Sisters Mysteries

  5. 19th Wife - (CD) by  David Ebershoff
  6. Empire of Ivory (CD) by Naomi Novik (Magic Dragon Series)
Now if I can just learn to read as fast I get books, I'd be in book heaven!
